The show creatively weaves historical film clips, animation, fashion, and dance into a unique storytelling experience. You'll not only enjoy the best music of the era, but you'll see how that music influenced the fads, fashions, and politics of the decade, and how the major events of the decade greatly influenced the music.
The Film Clips: Film plays a critical role in This Is The '60s, tying the sequences together and guiding the audience through the diverse musical periods. Clips from vintage newsreels, motion pictures, and popular commercials and jingles put the music into context by showing the pop culture, lifestyles, and social issues that provided the inspiration for the songwriters of the '60s.
Computer Imagery & Animation: Original animation and creative motion graphics help set the scene for each tune and create a living backdrop for the band and dancers. With visual cues ranging from Yellow Submarine to Monty Python to surfboard styles, the images help transport the audience 50 years back in time.
Dance: The '60s were a time of movement, figuratively and literally. So the decade cannot be fully honored without the inclusion of dance. Enhancing the interactive, participatory spirit of the production, two professional dancers show their moves-from the twist, to the go-go cages of the Whiskey A-Go-Go, to a love-in in the park.
Wardrobe: The show is also a virtual fashion show as the wardrobe of both band and dancers mirror each period… the matching shirts of the early rockers, British Saville Row suits, the leather fringe of Haight-Ashbury, Nehru jackets, bellbottoms, paisley prints, and Sgt. Pepper uniforms.
Lighting: The light show grows with the music. Starting with limited early concert and TV studio lighting, the illumination progresses into the wild, pulsing rhythms of the famous Joshua Light Show from Bill Graham's Fillmore.
